I have been wanting to have one site where I can point people when they ask about my Halloween props. I decided I might as well make it fun and do a retro style, turn of the century page like when making sites was fun for me. ^*^

Septober Starts

A blacklight Haloween scene. Th back drop is spiderwebs, there is a glowing Jackolantern on a stand, glowing bats hung from the ceiling, a spider on the webs, a green crawling skeleton and a green glowing skeleton waving hello. On the edge of the steps are 3 jackolanterns and a gargoyle. A few candles are around. The front porch is basically finished. Now I need to do some maintenece, getting the banshee ready to go out, and wait for the last mowing.

And So It Begins

A blacklight Haloween scene. Th back drop is spiderwebs, there is a glowing Jackolantern on a stand, a spider on the webs, and a green glowing skeleton waving hello. It was so nice and cool out I decided to start putting up Halloween starting with the front porch as always. The proch is about halfway done. I can't do the next area, the line of jackolanterns, till the yard guys come and do the final mowing so I hope to get to that in a few days.

Yes it's a bit early but now I can take me time and really enjoy putting everything out rather than having to push myself so it seems like a chore.

That's 2 Projects Done

Three graveyard spirits in regular light, blacklight, and the dark in which they glow.

The Graveyard Spirits are done and ready to go out to the graveuard, once there is a graveyard. Banshee is also done.

A screaming Banshee in regular light, blacklight, and the dark in which she glows.

Almost Time to Wail

A screaming Banshee wearing tattered white and mesh. She is glowing in the dark, in regular light, and in blacklight. Banshee is almost done. She just needs a few adjustments and it is Glamour Shot time.

They are Done

3 Graveyard Spirits hanging in the doorway. The Graveyard Spirits are finished and I have the DIY for them up under Projects just need to do their glamour shots next week, then they wait to be put outside for the season.

Spirits Rise

A graveyard spirit Halloween prop in regular, blacklight, and glowing in the dark. Got the first of the spirits finished. Need to write up the instructions since so many have asked for a DIY of these then will make the other 2 and get better pictures. This one is just sitting on a table not hung up. I do not have Glow in the Dark Tulles for these. I am going to decide if it's worth hitting them with some teal GITD spray before calling them done, done.

Naked Banshee

A glowing in the dark skeleton with the bottm half glowing tulle instead of legs Got a little more done tonight on the Banshee and the Spirits. I sprayed her all over with some blue UV but invisible in regular light paint, Montana UV effect. This stuff is really good, does not glow in the dark but the blue is also a white blue and was exactly what I wanted for the base color on her. I sprayed it a little unevenly so her natural green glow would also show in blacklight. I sprayed the shaping foam and the tulle with some glow in the dark but otherwise invisible spray paint. The green is the standard Rustoleum GITD which is pretty decent but needs several coats if you want it even. The more teal glow is Glo-X blue glow in the dark. This stuff is not that great and takes even more coats to get much of anything. It is also teal not blue and no that is not an effect of mixing with the green it is teal on its own. I do like having the 2 different glow in the dark colors. I feel it adds more depth and interest.

I Hate Summer

Got more done tonight but no pictures yet. The Graveyard Spirits got their final sealing coat. I just have to redo the black in their eyes and they will be ready to put the tulle on. Trying to decide how best to convey how I do this since a tutorial on making them is very requested. I also did some more work on the banshee but she is further off. After the Spirits are done I can do the spray painting on her which should take a few nights. I decided not to do an overdress because of weight mostly. Also I am redying my hair tomorrow night so I will do the rain tests on her wig. It's a lot and I still don't know if I am putting out Halloween this year.

Slow Progress

No pictures of today's preogress as it was mostly testing a few things and making minor tweaks to a few things. At least it wasn't too hot to do a little work in the garage. I guess the point is I am moving forward and making progress even if it is slow. I should be able to work outside tomorrow night, actually most of the week looks ok for short garage excursions so that's great. I haven't even thought about what I want to do to make the Centaur better this year since I really rushed putting him togbether last minute.

Augtober is Here

Beaded fringe in oranges, greens, and purples. Decided the fringe would look better denser and I think it does. Twice the beads and twice the work but it should be worth it. Hoping it's cool enough to get a little done in the garage tonight. Jugling so many projects... and I am still not sure if I am even putting Halloween out this year.

Make it Sparkle

Beaded fringe in oranges, greens, and purples. Started on the beaded fringe for the lamp. This is going to take a long time, but I knew it would plus I find beading to be very relaxing.

Stuck on both the Banshee and Graveyard Spirits till I can work out in the garage some. Record heat this week so maybe next week I can get more done. At least I have my beading project till then and thatis going to take more than a week.

Back to the Banshee

A skeleton wearing a tattered underdress in regular and blacklight. She has ephemeral strips of tulle coming out the bottom instead of legs. Back to the Banshee rebuild. Got her new under dress done. I am thinking of doing an overdress I just need to work on how to make sure the fabric glows in blacklight at least a bit and make decisions about exactly what to do. The tulle she has instead of legs will look ethereal out at night glowing in the black light.

I Hate Summer

3 rows of 3 skulls on black velvet. Each row is in a different light. Waiting on some stuff for the lamp project but details done on the skulls for the Graveyard Spirits shown here in regular, blacklight, and glowing in the dark. Unfortunately the next step requires me to do some work out in the garage and we are having a brutal heatwave so even at night it is too hot to do so. I am going to shift to other projects till it cools off a bit. Working on the lamp but more importantly the Banshee rebuild. I'm actually a bit nervous about cutting her dress, and I really shouldn't be.

As far as the skulls go they are regular plastic skulls painted with white spray paint, then a mixture of Wildfire Optic White Invisible. Details are done with Black 3.0 from culturehustle. The original spirits were done with Black 2.0. Next step is to seal them with a clear, matte sealant that is NOT UV protective, for obvious reasons. Then once sealed I will reuse the old spirits' shrouds and try to get some good pictures of them. Other than the painting these are really simple to make.

Graveyard Spirits

3 panels of 3 skulls hanging from a shower curtain rod. The panels are in regular light, black light and in the dark. Waiting on some stuff for the lamp project but I have started working on replacing the Spirits. This is 3 coats of Wildfire optical white invisible with some blue glow in the dark powder mixed in over white spraypaint. Will need to see if they need a 4th coat tomorrow or if I can move on to the next phase. They will need to be sealed before I put the tulle back on them and I need to make sure I have some matte sealant that does NOT have UV protection, for the obvious reasons. The image is in Regular light, Blacklight, and in the dark. I am not too fussed about the GITD being a bit splotchy. Honestly these don't NEED glow in the dark at all, but what the hell.

I am trying to get work done on other projects as well. Need to sew the Banshee dress next, and am doing tests on some possible upgrades for Anaheid's prom dress. I have about a month till I have to decide if I am putting Halloween out this year but regardless I want to get these things done.

Trying can be trying

a lamp that is a skull lady bust with a fancy victorian black lampshade Because of the current situation money is pretty tight this year so I am going to have to content myself whith the projects I already have everything for with one exception. This may be the only Halloween decor I buy this year but I could not pass it up.

I have removed the heinous fabric from the very nice sturdy metal frame of the shade. Massive squick from the polyester that was on the inside. Only have to touch it again when using it as a pattern. I will use some of the last of my white silk rayon stretch velvet (I have a LOT of scraps) for the outside and some Rayon for the inside because I need the inside and outside to match perfectly because I am doing a gradient and don't want just a white or pastel inside. Will be putting the white on the frame and painting the dye on in situ, wrapping tightly in plastic and letting it sit in a hot car for a few days to set. Then I will be re trimming it and doing beadwork on the trim and making beaded fringe all around.

Where I am still a bit stuck is picking the colorscheme for the shade gradiet and beads. I will either do Halloween colors, my teal/blue/purple heliotrope, just black on black, or black and purple. The last would be the most versitle but would require a very subtle violet to purple shade. I don't know which room it will end up in so that is little help in determining my course.

In any case working on getting the inside workspace useable again this week so hopefully I can post some banshee and spirit progress soon.

What the Actual Factual Fuck

So the derailment has been ongoing since my last entry. Things have not gotten better. In fact they have gotten worse! I did something to my shoulder a few months ago whaich is keeping me from being able to do much. I have gotten no work done on projects and am unsure if I will even be able to put out Halloween this year. We have had a few minor disasters at the house and the spouse remains unemployed and looking so money is tight this year. I am feeling the need to make stuff and spefically work on Halloween projects that have laid fallow lo these many months. I have everything I need to finish the Banshee and remake the spirits, I just have to do it, which is hard when I can't even do dishes some days due to pain.

Enough of the pity party, the tldr is I am going to try and get some work done on things even if I can't get them out this year. I also need to finish uploading pictures from past years to this site. I am feeling Halloween approach and I need to do something or I will rot inside this meat bag of mine.

March 18, 2025

Well... dammit

Project work has gotten completely derailed because my spouse was just laid off and I need to focus on other things right now. Hopefully I will be able to get back to the banshee soon one I get a few things sorted.

Working on Prop Updates

I have been working on rebuilding the Banshee (not yet on her own page as I was waiting till she was redone) and completely forgot to post here, oops. So far I just have her taken apart, a few cracks repaired with epoxy, and started on her wig. The wig is very much a work in progress but I like where it is going so far.

The wig is teased in sections, many of which have white floral wire running through them for added support. I am using Wildfire transparent white paint to hold the locks in place since using acrylic paint for hair gel worked so well with the octomermaid for her wet hair look. Wigs on props that go outside tend to becume a tangled mess so you need to do something to keep everything in place and since aquanet won't hold up to repeated rain storms other methods must be tried. I am wanting to go for the illusion of motion with this new version of her like the graveyard spirits.

... and speaking of...

Tonight I decided to remove the spirits tulle to wash it since it had become dingy. Unfortunately the skulls are extremly damaged from being outside for so many seasons and crumbled when I grabbed one.

The second one also fell apart. The third is ok but since I don't have enough of these glow in the dark skulls to redo even 2 of them I am getting new skulls which I am going to paint. I plan to do a base coat of white plastic friendly spray paint then use Wildfire Optical White and Black 3.0 for the details. The upside is with the paint the plastic won't be as damaged from being outside.

More pictures as I make progress on both.

progress!

Added the pictures from 2024 and several more monsters. I have a few more Monsters to go and trying to figure out how I am going to handle the Banshee because I am just about to redo her starting ptobably next month. Still need to do the about me page and I am trying to decide if I also want to put my spooky art here too. I am leaning towards yes. I have

this is going to take a while

I am going to be adding pages for a while even once the design stabelizes. Started on Monsters tonight. Still not sure how I want to format the WIP section on the monster pages that will have one. There are a lot of monsters and a lot of years to put on the display pages. This is still fun but now I have the tedious part, actually filling it all out and I have close to a decade of stuff to put up.

... and so it begins

As of right now this doesn't work on mobile, that wasn't a 'thing' at the turn of the century. Maybe I'll try to fix that. MAYBE.

I am going to use The Blorg to blorg about current Halloween projects I am working on. I will be starting in February on upgrades to the Banshee. I will be posting WIPs of past projects in Monsters and you can see how the yard and house looked in years past in Displays.

I am still sorting out how I want to organize this mess. I haven't made a site in a very long time and a lot has changed. This is going to be very basic... probably. We will see where this leads.

Now where are the Spooky webrings?
